Emerging artists to look out for in 2018

2017 has been an incredible year for music, as we look back on releases from the likes of Bjork, Kendrick Lamar, Gorillaz and Lorde.

Ahead of 2018, we’ve decided to compile a shortlist of some of the most exciting emerging artists, all with exciting plans for the year ahead of them.

Jake Thomas Turnbull

North East born singer-songwriter Jake Thomas Turnbull took the long hard route to stardom. Now based in London, he spent the last two years constantly playing live shows and gaining more recognition all whilst staying in hostels, working full time and studying. Breaking into the bustling London music scene, he has gone on to release a myriad of great folk-pop songs, including this year’s Fire – a track that premiered on ItsAllIndie. This lead to him playing a string of successful gigs, including Proud Camden and Notting Hill Arts Club.

2018 is sure to be a momentous year for the rising artist as he prepares to release much more music in the new year, starting with two new tracks that are raring to go. Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen in Shoreditch will be hosting Turnbull at the venue on the 2nd February.

Noita Lie To Me Promo Pic 2

Singer-songwriter Noita produces moody experimental R&B music characterised by her sultry yet fragile vocals that are often mixed with a vocoder and paired with atmospheric, ethereal and bassy productions. This year saw the 21-year-old release her debut EP Pink Noise, unveiled to the public split into chapters, “Thoughts (I), Feelings (II) and Noise (III)” as well as previous incredible stand out single Zone. The tracks got critics buzzing, and helped the songstress gain recognition in Earmilk, This Song Slaps, and Purple Sneakers.

In late 2017 Noita collaborated with German production duo Konsequence, lending her vocals to their track “Hills” off their Studio City EP. Having just released single Lie To Me, produced by Glass Face’s Dylan King, Noita is preparing for new releases, which precedes the arrival of her sophomore EP. One can be assured that 2017 won’t be the last you hear of this talented artist.

ROE 1_8 3

Roisin Donald, professionally known by her stage name ROE, is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who thrives on cinematic soundscapes of lush synths and booming drum machines in creating magical pop melodies. She also labels her music as ‘grumpy electro pop’, though don’t let the negative connotations turn your head the other way.

Following a year that saw ROE feature as the only artist of her country to feature on the BBC Introducing stage at this year’s phenomenal Glastonbury Festival, become the voice of hometown Derry’s tourism campaign, and undergo her debut tour of the UK, 2018 has a lot more to come. With two performances to come at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen in January and a planned tour of Ireland in February, she sets off on another UK tour in the Autumn and a full festival circuit during those busy months of the summer.

Her debut album is expected to arrive midway through the year with a new single dropping at the end of January, and a secret collaboration is due for a release in April. The 18-year-old has already experienced a fantastic year in a so far short career, and more success is sure to come her way.

Enigmatic ‘future pop’ artist ADAL deals in modern doses of pop that hint his love of 80s classics and 90s RNB. ADAL is currently writing a debut album, with an array of featuring vocalists which include FREJA, Indiana and XY&O. 2018 is set to be an exciting year for the ‘king collaborator’, while he expands on his enigmatic live show incorporating VR for a truly engaging live experience.

2017 was a busy year for ADAL having toured with prolific band IHEARTSHARKS, played a number of tastemaker festivals across The Great Escape and SXSW. The summer release of ‘Fire To You (Feat. FREJA)’ was quick to amass over 150,000 Spotify streams and attention from tastemaker sites; The Line Of Best Fit and Notion Magazine. The time is now for the exciting artist.

Land Before Bedtime

Kent-based singer and producer Harley Light, professionally known as Land Before Bedtime, creates a range of energetic and interesting pop music. From the introspective and observant ballad of Broadway to the pumping promiscuous Flex, Light turns personal experiences from his life into three minute pop wonders for the people to hear. 2018 is set to be an exciting year; his full length debut mixtape is set to arrive alongside merchandise and new music videos, with the prospect of a string of unforgettable live shows that are sure to follow.

2017 saw Light release three stellar singles in Empty Bottle, Broadway, and Flex – the latter of which saw a collaboration with viral sensation and dancehall artist M Dot R and recognition from Unsigned Music Awards. Broadway was featured as a top track on music blog Hype Machine and gathered a review from Spindle Magazine and BBC Music. While Empty Bottle made as an impressive debut, catching the attention of Abbie McCarthy (BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing) leading to this being placed as BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week. With the successes already gained from a handful of singles, you can expect to see many more things are to come for this bright prospect in the next twelve months.
