argentine boys for sale: a NIGEL NOLAN project with music by XIU XIU

Argentine Boys for sale chronicles the Canadian artist’s three year project in which he shared space with five Argentine men. Parts of the account were previously hosted online and viewers were invited to interact and participate, sponsoring the “boys” by buying images of them. Nolan shared the profits from the work with each subject, and in return DANIEL, FeD, JOEL, OMAR, and SEB contacted the buyers to detail how the money was spent.

Argentine Boys for sale is a 500 page graphic account by Nigel Nolan with a 20 minute soundtrack by Xiu Xiu. It invites viewers to participate in the lives of the artist and his subjects. Through text, music, photography, andpainting, the digital project offers intimate portraits of DANIEL, FeD, JOEL,
NIGEL, OMAR and SEB. This book is available for sale and download in a PDF and MP3 bundle, exclusively at www.xiuxiu.org.

Chess grandmaster and six-time Olympic taligrade champion, was born yesterday. She left the University of Hastings in 1996 with a degree in pataphysics. After much soul-searching, she abandoned a promising career in autohagiography to pursue her photographic fancies. In 1999, During a period of creative obstipation, she satiated her mounting planomania and rode her bicycle to Mesopotamia in six days. She was to remain here until 2001 when the release of Jurassic Park III would draw her out of seclusion. She has suffered from paramnesia ever since.

So avant-garde that she has outgrown the need for cameras altogether, Francesca instead focuses of the spiritual side of photography and encourages viewers to visualise the pictures she hasn’t taken.
Francesca refuses to fly anywhere, despite owning a pilot’s license. She enjoys the music of John Coltrane and the novels of Franz Kafka.

Shot by NY portrait photographer Jung Kim, the exhibition is a culmination of five years of intimate collaboration and friendship between the pair, showcasing a selection from thousands of photographs captured on film since the project started in 2008.

The exhibition opens in conjunction with this first-ever photography book on Johnston, which was underwritten entirely by Johnston’s fans around the world via crowdfunding website Kickstarter, becoming one of its most successful photography projects to date.

SULK – The Big Blue

When you listen to SULK it soon becomes apparent they they have been heavily influenced by bands from the New Romantics 80s era such as The Smiths and The Stone Roses. However, especially with the song The Big Blue they have used their influences and added their own modern ingenuity to create a well written song. they also have an air of brit pop about them, not just in there musical style but also in there appearance, the lead singer’s persona is very reminisent of ian brown back in the day.

For those that like house and don’t know Karma Kid then you have probably been asleep for the past year or so, Karma Kid AKA Sam Knowles is the fresh faced teenager bringing a youthful vibe to the house scene. Think of house in the early 90′s when it was fresh from Detroit and Chicago, there is something incredibly new about his sound yet it holds strong house credentials. Long story short if you catch him live be ready to get down, pulling from all corners of musical genres his ability as a DJ places him right up there along more established DJ’s that are many years his senior!

We recently caught him supporting Bondax at Junk in Southampton which we have to say is easily one of the best sets we have had the privileged of attending at Southampton’s infamous Junk Club! The moment he stepped on the decks the vibe shifted, as he got into his set floods of people piled onto the dance floor drawn in by some feel good 4 – 4 beats wanting to bust some shapes. The unique Junk club couldn’t be a move perfect venue for his set, paired up with Karma Kid an instant house party vibe spread throughout the club. Yesterday I-D announced a guest mix by Karma Kid, listening to it instantly brought back memories of his live set and the atmosphere whilst being 100′s deep on the dance floor noticing the seasoned house heads of old appreciating it’s new direction. Anneka – Deliver – Live Performance Video

Annekas latest release ‘’Deliver’’ is a great track, its looping echoed vocals haunt you, its simplicity is its key feature, with its light floaty rhythm, Anneka uses only her vocals and a drum pad to enthral you. It’s rather short but it really leaves you wanting more, which is a clever move on her part. Many have likened her to Bjork but bringing her own style and flavour to it, merely following in footsteps of Bjork and not deriving her entire sound from her. I believe this to be just a taste of what is to come, I look forward to see where she takes her sound next, I believe great things are in store.

LA based brand Dope have released a special collection to celebrate 420, if you don’t know what 420 means scroll through the images and you might get a hint…. For those that do, this is a real nice collection that has a direct relevance to 420 without being too brash and in your face.
